Idle Hour Kakadu Plum & Ginger Rye Vodka is the first release in the Native Series from Idle Hour, a Brisbane vodka brand founded by Ewen Pettit, Lachlan Goldsworthy and Matt Kowal and launched in 2020. The brand built its name on rye-based vodka, and this limited edition expression pairs that base with two native-inspired Australian flavours.
The spirit starts with Idle Hour's rye vodka, distilled only once and to a lower strength than most vodkas so more of the grain's character comes through. The result is a vodka with a gently spiced taste, a creamy texture and a clean finish, which gives the added flavours something to build on.
The deep rye flavour is balanced by the sweet and sour tang of Kakadu plum and a warming touch of Australian ginger. Serve it chilled over ice, top it with ginger beer and fresh lime for a native twist on a Moscow mule, or lengthen it with soda for a simple, refreshing highball.
