Glenglassaugh 8 Year Old Cask Strength Single Cask Ex-Bourbon Single Malt Whisky 700ml
Per Mare Per Terras – By Sea By Land
The Glenglassaugh motto tells you much about the award winning whisky that they make. Officially within the Highlands region, the Glenglassaugh Distillery overlooks the crescent beach of Sandend Bay on the Moray Firth coast. Mineral rich water sourced from the Glassaugh Spring contributes to a sweet, ripe new make spirit while the salty North Sea wind permeates the maturation warehouses some of which date back to the 1870s. The result is a one of a kind coastal highland malt.
Past & Present
Glenglassaugh’s fortunes have risen and fallen over the years like the tides of Sandend Bay. The distillery was commissioned in 1875 by Colonel James Moir and soon developed a reputation for producing high quality whisky. By 1907 the whisky market had taken a turn for the worse and the distillery was closed, not to be re-opened for over 50 years.
In 1960 Highland Distilleries re-opened Glenglassaugh with the intention of making a light whisky with little character for their growing blended whisky business. It was only after ten years that they realised that the earth and the sea of Sandend Bay couldn’t help but produce a unique and flavourful spirit. For 26 years they tried to make their characterless whisky before the distillery was again closed in 1986, for what most thought would be the last time. Ironically the whiskies produced in this era are now some of the most highly awarded for their elegance and depth.
In 2008 Glenglassaugh Distillery wasreborn once again and this time with the intention of doing what it does best – producing complex and flavourful coastal highland malt whisky.
