Domaine Rolet's Arbois Trousseau comes from the slopes of En Chagnon and En Levrin at Montigny-lès-Arsures, the village just north of Arbois that is widely considered the heartland of Trousseau. The vines face mainly west and south on limestone, loose gravel and grey marl, soils that bring both richness and a distinct minerality to this native Jura red.
The grapes are picked by hand, sorted and mostly destemmed, with some whole bunches included, before a slow maceration with gentle pump-overs. Part of the wine is then matured in seasoned French oak. Trousseau is light in colour but surprisingly concentrated, and this cuvée shows crunchy red fruits such as raspberry, redcurrant and morello cherry, darkening towards black fruit and pepper with air, framed by smooth tannins and a cherry and spice finish.
Domaine Rolet was founded in Arbois in 1942 by Désiré Rolet and has grown into one of the Jura's larger family-run estates, with around 65 hectares of vines spread across Arbois, Côtes du Jura, L'Etoile and Château-Chalon.
