The Santenots vineyard sits in the commune of Meursault but is uniquely classified as Volnay Premier Cru when planted with red grapes — one of Burgundy's most intriguing quirks of appellation law. Domaine Matrot holds approximately 1.5 hectares in Les Santenots-du-Milieu, the central and most prized section, planted on limestone and clay soils with good iron content.
Vinified in the domaine's characteristically meticulous style with indigenous yeasts and extended lees ageing, this Pinot Noir bridges the two communes: broader and more structured than typical Volnay, with earthy depth and red fruit, yet showing finer tannins and more finesse than the muscular Pommards to the south.
