Domaine de la Bêche is a family estate in Beaujolais founded in 1848 and now in the hands of its seventh generation. Olivier Depardon took over in 1985, when the domaine covered just four hectares, and has since grown it to around 26 hectares. Today his son Alexis looks after the vineyards and the winemaking, while his daughter Caroline manages the commercial side of the business.
This Beaujolais-Villages is made entirely from Gamay grown on the crystalline, granite-based soils of the lower part of Morgon. The fruit is fully destemmed, with no whole bunches, and vinified in a Burgundian style.
Expect a deeply coloured Gamay with aromas of blackcurrant, strawberry and spice, and a round, aromatic palate with gentle tannin and a mineral edge. It is a generous, versatile red for everyday drinking.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
