The Accidental Red is a bright, easy-drinking wine made from Macedon Ranges fruit under the Dhillon label, a project of the acclaimed Bindi team in central Victoria. It began almost by chance when surplus Merlot and Shiraz pressings were combined, and has since become a deliberate blend built around Merlot and Shiraz with a small portion of Malbec.
Expect a lifted nose of red cherry and subtle spice, with a gentle earthiness adding depth. The palate is juicy and supple in a mid-weight, almost Pinot-like style, carried by silky, fine tannins that linger on the close. It happily takes a light chill and suits relaxed, everyday drinking.
Grown in the cool climate of the Macedon Ranges, this is a characterful red that offers plenty of charm and drinkability.
