This is the sherry cask arm of the Courage & Conviction range, the American single malt built by Virginia Distillery Co. from 100% malted barley at its home below the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.
Rather than blending cask types as the flagship does, this release leans entirely on sherry wood, and the fruit that comes with it is unmistakable. Tart cherry and golden raisin lead, deepening into fig and caramelised plum, with brown sugar and spice through the back half.
Darker and sweeter in shape than the bourbon cask bottling, and the one to reach for if dried fruit and sherried richness are what you look for in a malt.
