Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc Pessac-Léognan 2022 750ml

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves at Martillac in Pessac-Léognan, farmed by the Cathiard family since 1990. The vines sit in a single block on a Günz gravel plateau, and the estate is unusual in being equally celebrated for its white wine as for its red.

The blanc is built on Sauvignon Blanc, with small proportions of Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon adding weight and texture. It is fermented and raised for about a year in barrels made at the estate's own cooperage, built in 1995 and now supplying most of the barrels used on the property, with regular lees stirring to build richness.

The style is precise and generous at the same time: citrus, white peach and passionfruit over flint and toasted almond, with a creamy mid palate held in check by bright acidity and a long, saline finish. It drinks beautifully young and gains complexity with several years in bottle.
