Château d'Yquem 1er Cru Supérieur Sauternes 2020 375ml

Château d'Yquem is the only estate in Sauternes classified as Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 Classification — a standalone rank reserved for the region's most iconic wine. The 103-hectare vineyard sits on the highest hill in Sauternes, where a combination of gravel and clay soils over limestone, combined with morning mists from the Ciron river, creates ideal conditions for Botrytis cinerea. Under the ownership of LVMH since 1999, the estate is managed by Pierre Lurton.

A dessert wine typically made from around 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. Yquem is built on the interplay of sweetness, concentration and vibrant acidity, with honeyed aromas of apricot, candied citrus, vanilla, tropical fruit and exotic spice. The palate is layered, viscous and profound, with extraordinary length; the 2020 offers purity and precision alongside its richness. A wine built to age for decades.

The harvest is famously meticulous, with around 150 pickers making multiple passes through the vineyard to select only individually botrytised berries at their peak. The wine ferments in new French oak and matures in barrel for roughly 30 months before bottling. Half bottle format.
