Bols Cornewyn Genever 1L
Bols Cornewyn Genever 1L
Corenwyn is a high-malt Genever specialty, alternatively spelled as 'kirenwijn'. The term 'corenwyn' translates to 'grain wine', indicating the significant presence of malt wine (at least 51%) in the blend. The exclusive right to use the Corenwyn brand name belongs to Bols, as it was originally crafted by Lucas Bols in 1575. Initially, this term was reserved for the most exceptional distillations of grain.
Presently, the spirit is distilled using copper pot stills in a meticulous four-stage process, with the final stage involving the passage of the spirit over juniper berries to extract its flavors and aromas. A two-year maturation period in oak casks imparts a delicate pale gold hue and a nutty, slightly fruity character, rendering it an excellent choice for an aperitif and a perfect complement to cold dishes, particularly seafood. Corenwyn continues to be available in traditional, handcrafted stone jars.
