Bicknell FC is the small Yarra Valley label founded in 2011 by Dave Bicknell, longtime chief winemaker at Oakridge, and viticulturist Nicky Harris. The label concentrates on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from characterful sites, and this Applecross Chardonnay comes from old, low yielding vines on the Lance Vineyard at St Andrews.
It is a cool, mineral style, with white nectarine, apple blossom and a saline thread on the nose, along with a touch of the flinty reduction typical of Bicknell's Chardonnays. The palate is focused and finely structured, neither heavy nor light, with integrated acidity carrying through to a long, clean finish.
The hand picked fruit was whole bunch pressed to older French puncheons with no new oak and fermented naturally. Malolactic conversion was blocked to retain natural acidity, and the wine spent 11 months on lees without stirring before bottling in early 2026.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
