ARARAT Akhtamar is a ten year old Armenian brandy from the Yerevan Brandy Company, one of the most storied names in Armenian distilling. Its name comes from a romantic Armenian legend of a young man who swam the waters of Lake Van each night to reach his beloved, Tamar.
Made from local white grapes grown in the valleys around Mount Ararat and combined with Armenian spring water, the brandy is aged for ten years in Caucasian oak. The nose is elegant and layered, with beeswax, hazelnut and oak alongside hints of vanilla and dried plum, while the palate is rounded and gently sweet, unfolding notes of dried apricot, sultana, creamy vanilla and cinnamon.
The finish is long and warming, with a light, balancing dryness and a lingering touch of cinnamon spice. Velvety and refined, it is a brandy of real character and a fine way to close an evening.
