Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Madeira Cask is a Highland single malt from the Aberfeldy Distillery, founded in 1898 by John and Tommy Dewar in the foothills of Scotland's central Highlands. The distillery sits on the banks of the Pitilie Burn in Perthshire, and its honeyed, fruit-forward house style has long formed the heart of the Dewar's blend. This release was originally created for the global travel retail market under malt master Stephanie MacLeod.
The whisky shows a bright amber colour with classic Aberfeldy honeyed richness lifted by Madeira influence. Expect aromas of honeyed nuts, sultanas, candied orange and fruit cake spice, leading into a silky palate of runny toffee, baked apple and cinnamon, with a creamy vanilla finish carried by sweet, lingering spice.
The single malt is matured for sixteen years in oak before being finished for up to twelve months in hand-selected ex-Madeira casks, which add layers of dried fruit, baked spice and a touch of richness to the core spirit.
