Distillery Notes: Ray Daniel
"Founded in the late 1700s, Michter's Distillery has cultivated a legacy deeply intertwined with the rich tapestry of American whiskey history. Originating in Pennsylvania, Michter's began as a humble endeavour, crafting rye whiskey with a commitment to quality and precision. Despite the challenges of Prohibition, during which the distillery was forced to halt production like many others, Michter's resilience endured, and with the repeal of Prohibition, it emerged ready to embrace the resurgence of American whiskey.
Throughout the tumultuous 20th century, Michter's faced numerous trials and tribulations, yet its dedication to crafting exceptional spirits remained unwavering. In the 1980s, under new ownership, Michter's underwent a period of revitalization, leading to a renewed focus on its heritage and craftsmanship. It was during this time that Michter's relocated to Kentucky, a move that would solidify its place in the heart of bourbon country.
Under the stewardship of Joe Maglioco, President of Chatham Imports, which owns Michter's, the distillery has flourished, embracing both tradition and innovation in equal measure. While Michter's may not be family-owned in the traditional sense, it operates with a familial ethos, with Maglioco and his team guiding the company with a passion for quality and a reverence for the distillery's storied past.
Today, Michter's stands as a beacon of excellence in the world of American whiskey, revered for its uncompromising commitment to crafting premium bourbon and rye. With each sip, drinkers are transported through centuries of history, experiencing the craftsmanship and dedication that have defined Michter's for generations."
