This artisanal single malt is the first 100% Japanese production from the Sakurao Distillery, located in Hiroshima near the Seto Inland Sea. It is uniquely matured in a repurposed 361-metre long railway tunnel in the town of Akiota-Togouchi, where a constant temperature of 14–15°C and high humidity provide ideal conditions for slow, elegant maturation. The spirit is aged for at least three years in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks before being reduced with natural spring water from the Sandankyo mountains.
The aroma is fresh and welcoming, featuring notes of vanilla, crisp apple, and orange marmalade with a subtle hint of melon. On the palate, it offers a rounded and smooth texture with a clean sweetness, layering flavors of dried fruits, fresh nuts, and brown sugar. The experience concludes with a bright, refreshing finish characterized by sweet spices, ginger, and a touch of Japanese pepper.
