Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos Des 60 Ouvrees 2023 1500ml

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is one of Burgundy's most revered estates, managing approximately 17 hectares across the Cote d'Or from its base in the village of Volnay. Under the direction of Patrick Landanger, the domaine practises biodynamic viticulture and a meticulous winemaking approach centred on long, gentle vinification and ageing on lees. The estate holds seven Grand Crus, eleven Premier Crus, and three prized monopoles — exclusively owned vineyard parcels that are among the most coveted in all of Burgundy.

The Clos des 60 Ouvrees is one of those three monopoles, a walled 2.39-hectare parcel nestled within the celebrated Volnay Les Caillerets Premier Cru vineyard, on the border with Meursault. Its clay-limestone soils are perfectly suited to Pinot Noir, and more than half the vines are over 60 years old, with the oldest plantings dating back to 1958. Low yields from diligent green harvesting and rigorous selection ensure exceptional concentration and purity of fruit.

Hand-harvested grapes are destemmed, cold-soaked for a week, then fermented on indigenous yeasts with approximately three weeks of maceration. The wine is aged in French oak barriques (around 30% new) for 15 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. On the palate, expect a full, luxurious mouthfeel with layers of dark cherry, baking spice, and mineral complexity, underpinned by silky tannins and a long, creamy finish. Presented in magnum format, this is a magnificent wine built for cellaring and special occasions.
