The Pira vineyard has been a monopole of the family ever since, and their Barolo Pira is a single-vineyard expression of this site in the heart of the Barolo zone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe vineyard is farmed without chemicals, and the winemaking follows the patient, hands-off approach for which Roagna is renowned. Fermentation is started with a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, and the wine then undergoes very long macerations of around two months under a submerged cap. Ageing takes place in large, neutral oak casks for roughly four to five years, and the wine is bottled without clarification or filtration.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBarolo Pira is a deep, powerful yet refined Nebbiolo, typically offering dark cherry, plum, rose and violet with layers of liquorice, earth and spice.
