Domaine Marquis d'Angerville works 1.58 hectares here, with vines averaging around 30 to 35 years of age, and the wine tends to be among the more open and immediately expressive of the domaine's premiers crus.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 2022 it is airy and generous, with juicy red and dark berry fruit, a touch of silky richness and real concentration held together by bright energy. Alongside Champans, it is a little more fruit-forward than the stonier Taillepieds in this vintage. Harvest started on 23 August, one of the earliest on record, but fermentations ran smoothly and Guillaume d'Angerville describes the year as a classic one where the heat is not evident in the wines.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe estate's history in Volnay is recorded as far back as 1507, and the family has owned it since 1804. Grapes are destemmed and given a cool pre-fermentation soak before fermenting with native yeasts, then raised mainly in older barrels so that the vineyard rather than the oak sets the tone.
