The vineyard sits on the banks of the Derwent River just outside Hobart, established in 1986 and planted at an unusually high density of around 8,300 vines per hectare, which pushes the vines to compete and concentrates the fruit.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Pinot Noir is hand picked and fermented in small open fermenters with a high proportion of whole bunches, in some years up to the full crop. That approach gives the wine its lifted perfume and the fine, structural tannin that runs underneath.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe nose is intensely fragrant, with dark cherry, black tea, dried sage and a bitter amaro edge. Seductive red fruits wrap around a tightly woven line of graphite and bergamot, with orange peel and dried herbs lingering behind. Whole bunch tannin and gentle oak spice sit elegantly on the palate, and mineral acidity draws it out to a long, savoury close. Refined, textural and unmistakably Tasmanian.
