An oenology graduate from Reims, he served his apprenticeship in demanding company: Sylvain Pataille in Burgundy, Domaine Guiberteau and Clos Rougeard in the Loire, SICAVAC in Sancerre and Champagne Pierre Gerbais.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat makes the site unusual is the rock beneath it. Where most of Saumur sits on soft tuffeau, Clos Durandiere rests on a bedrock of hard Jurassic limestone, and that difference gives the Cabernet Franc grown here a firmer, more mineral cast than the appellation norm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wine is fragrant and finely built rather than broad, with red currant, raspberry, violet and the graphite and crushed herb notes that mark good Loire Cabernet Franc. Tannins are fine and savoury, the acid line bright, and the finish stony and long.
