The pair first met as students at Roseworthy in 1991 and, in 2022, bought an established vineyard in the Coal River Valley, north of Hobart. The vines were planted in 1990 on black, cracking clay over a limestone layer studded with ancient shell fragments, in a dry, cool site with long growing seasons.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 2025 Pinot Noir was hand-picked in two parcels. One was fermented entirely as whole bunches, while the other was destemmed, cold soaked for five days and left to ferment slowly on wild yeasts. Both went into small, seasoned French oak for malolactic fermentation and spent nine months on lees before bottling, with the aim of drawing perfume and delicacy out of a naturally dense site.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a precise, perfumed and light to medium-bodied Pinot, with blueberry and mulberry fruit lifted by a touch of Campari-like spice and a fine, savoury frame.
