Just under two hectares on a gentle slope, clay and limestone shot through with wind blown sand, and one of the most celebrated sites in all of Saumur-Champigny.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is the middle of the three Cabernet Franc reds at Clos Rougeard, and it sits between the fragrance of Le Clos and the density of Le Bourg. Expect dark berry fruit, violet, graphite and tobacco leaf, with the fine peppery, herbal signature of great Loire Cabernet Franc. The palate is deep and finely drawn, tannins firm but polished, finishing long and mineral.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWinemaking is unhurried and non interventionist: native yeast fermentation with a four to six week maceration in open top cement vats, gentle extraction, then eighteen to twenty four months in small barrels of one year of age. Eight generations of the same family, most recently the Foucault brothers, have built the estate into the Loire's most sought after address.
