The Onkaparinga Grenache comes from bush vines planted in the mid-1940s in the upper reaches of Blewitt Springs, on a west-facing slope at around 250 metres. Dense rock sits just below the surface, with more quartz, ironstone and shale than the usual Blewitt Springs sand, and the vines have grown only about 30cm tall in their lifetime. Yields are tiny.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fruit is hand-picked and fermented with wild yeast, with around 60% whole berries. The wine spends 18 months in French oak barrels between one and five years old and is bottled on site without fining or filtration.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a richly layered Grenache with Turkish delight, musk, violet and rose petal over blueberry, raspberry and cherry skin, with hints of incense and crushed rock minerality.
