The vines were first planted in 1988 on a 170 hectare property, and they sit at around 500 metres on poor soils of shattered quartz over siltstone, sandstone and clay.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDixon draws on two parts of the property and is made with a significant proportion of whole bunches, fermented in small open topped vats with indigenous yeast and no additions. Maturation follows in French oak barrels, with only a modest share of new wood so the site keeps the upper hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a Pinot Noir of real drive and detail: red cherry, cranberry and dark berry fruit with rose petal, woodland spice and a fine savoury, stemmy edge.
