Andrea's family were long-time sharecropping farmers in the hamlet surrounding the medieval abbey of Sant'Antimo. He bought the Uccelliera farm in 1986 (when Montalcino had just 60 estates bottling Brunello versus over 200 today) and released his first Brunello in 1991. The estate spans around 6.5 hectares, with vineyard work done entirely by hand. 2019 is widely regarded as a classic Brunello vintage.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e100% Sangiovese (Brunello) from Uccelliera's stony, loose soils and warm microclimate in the south-eastern corner of the appellation, which gives the wines a rich, ripe expression.
